Caramel popcorn

Are you looking for a quick snack for a movie night or chilling with your friends? Search no more. Try out our caramel popcorn recipe. Quick to prepare, very tasty and crunchy. You can have them with a glass of juice or soda, or alongside your favourite snack.

Ingredients you need:

  • 1/2 glass of popcorn seeds
  • Vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of sugar (brown/regular)
  • 2 tablespoons of butter/margarine
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda

Recipe:

  • Put vegetable oil in a cooking pot and add 1 tablespoon of salt. (vegetable oil should be enough to cover the popcorn seeds before popping)
  • Let the oil heat for about 2 minutes before putting in the popcorn seeds. Put the popcorn seeds stir them to ensure all the seeds are soaked with oil and cover the cooking pot with a lid.
  • Under medium heat, let the popcorn pop. Turn off the heat after they have stopped popping. ( it should take roughly 5-7 minutes)
  • Put the popcorn in a container.
  • Use a pan, put 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/4 cup of water. Under medium let the sugar melt don’t stir until you see bubbles and amber colour. (Stirring before the sugar melts make it crystallize)
  • Add 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine to the solution and stir as the butter or margarine melts.
  • Add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. It helps the sauce have a nice golden brown colour. Continue stirring until the caramel sauce is thick enough.
  • Turn off the heat, pour the sauce in the container with popcorn, mix it while still hot. Spread the popcorn on a baking tray to cool before serving. Your caramel popcorn is ready now after cooling for about (10-15 minutes). Serve the caramel popcorn with a glass juice/soda. Enjoy your snack!
